Why Should You Get a Bidet Seat?

Originally, a bidet is a low, oval or round basin, with a jet of warm water that individuals use to clean their um...sensitive areas after using the toilet (see best toilets here)

They are quite popular in many areas, such as Japan and most of the Middle East.

A bidet seat uses the same concept, but instead of being an individual, stand-alone toilet item, it integrates the bidet into the toilet itself, like a sort-of 2-and-1 kind of deal.

Simply put, a bidet is easier, more convenient and much more hygienic than using toilet paper.

I mean, if you want to wash your face, you wouldn’t just dab it with a bit of tissue paper and call it a day, right?

And I mean, your bottom has likely seen more horrors, making it even more prudent that you give it a good wash.

How to Install a Bidet?

Right, so you made it this far.

You went out and bought yourself a lovely little bidet seat. You go home and you realize you have no clue how to install this thing. Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Installing a bidet can be done in 4 simple steps:

  • 1
Remove the toilet seat and turn off the water: Use a flat screwdriver to unscrew the bolts holding down your toilet seat. These bolts will probably be underneath two caps which are right behind the seat. Make sure you turn off the water before you get into all this.
  • 2
Attach bidet seat mounting plate: In order to mount a bidet seat, you first need to install a mounting plate, or a mounting bracket. Place the mounting plate over the two holes behind the bowl, insert the rectangle guide rails, drop the bolts through the guide rails and make sure you fasten them properly.
  • 3
Install your bidet seat: Once the mounting plate is securely fastened, you can install your bidet seat. Simply slide the bidet seat onto the mounting plate until it locks into place. You should hear a ‘click’ sound once it is in place.
  • 4
Connect the water supply: The bidet seat should come with a T-connection (not the band). This T-connection splits the water flow into two; one to fill up the flush tank and the other connects to the bidet. First, locate the hose running behind your toilet. The valve extending from the floor is called the angle-stop. Unscrew the hose and connect the T-connection to the angle-stop, then reconnect the supply hose at the top of the T-connection. Attach the bidet hose to the remaining opening of the T-connection, and voila!

FAQ

Is a Bidet Hard to Use?

Using a bidet seat is a very simple process, but it can differ from one model to another.

Some use an adjustable lever that can increase or decrease the water pressure, others come with automated settings that need only a push of button on a remote control.

But all in all, bidets are not difficult to use or configure.

How often should you clean?

A bidet does not really need any more regular cleaning than your toilet, so just make sure you include it in your normal bathroom cleaning routine.
