1. TOTO Drake II

Throw a retirement party for your plunger as I introduce to you the TOTO Drake II.

The main feature of the Drake II is the Double Cyclone flushing technology. It has two outlets which creates a powerful swirling action that guarantees your reminiscence flushed away every time with the first flush. You can hold the handle longer to get more swirling and increase flushing intensity but I have never really needed it as even the quickest flush takes everything away.

The excellent performance and efficiency is not compromised even with a water use of 1.28 GPF. Not only do you get to say bye to your poop forever, but you always save on your water bills, about 20% compared to your conventional 1.6 GPF toilets.

It’s like hitting two birds with one stone, except you're hitting your poop away.

Besides excellent flushing power, the Drake II ensures members of the family can enjoy a comfy sleep while using Drake II at night, cheers to its double cyclone system. Although some people may argue that it’s not as quiet as they like due to the ‘glug glug glug’ sound at the end. However, this is based on your plumbing.

The toilet refills very quickly, anywhere from 15 to 20 seconds. This means if you have a large household, it can be used time and again consecutively. Just remember to keep an air freshener nearby.

Installation is fairly easy as a complete beginner can do it. I would say it takes up to 30 minutes. However, if you don’t trust in your ability and don’t mind paying a few hundred dollars, a plumber can do the trick, no problem.

What We Like

  • Powerful quiet flush
  • Water efficient (1.28 GPF)
  • Easy to install
  • Tank refills very quickly
  • Sanagloss

What We Don't Like

  • Not EPA WaterSense certified

2. TOTO G400 with Integrated Bidet Toilet

The TOTO G400 is a fully automatic toilet and bidet combined, a water closet from the future - just like, “Back to the future”, except you’re living it.

The super technology within this model makes it the terminator of all sanitary ware. It has such a ridiculous amount of features, that it needs it own separate post.

The G400 includes front and rear warm water washing with adjustable temperature and pressure controls. If you’re feeling adventurous, try setting it on the max pressure for your rear.

Say goodbye to freezing plastic seats as it has a heated seated feature with adjustable temperature control.

Other technological features include automatic air deodorizer, warm air dryer, illuminated touchpad, 2 user memory, auto open/close lid and auto flush.

Dual Max Cyclone system allows for a low water consumption - 0.9 or 1.28 GPF. With such a low water consumption it makes it WaterSense certified, saving you on water bill cost.

The TOTO G400’s design is super sleek, compact and stylish! It is of universal height, giving you a better pooping experience. The flush system and SanaGloss glaze means less manual cleaning required on the surface and within the bowl.

Installation can be a little more complex than a conventional model. This is mainly due to the need of having an electrical outlet near the machine to provide power and the possibility of having to transfer the point of water supply to prevent interference with the toilet skirt.

If you can get past the price, you are going to be in love with your toilet... as weird as that might sound. Is it even possible to love an object?

Truly one of the best TOTO toilet we have ever seen. Soon, you’ll be imitating your water closet by saying, “I’ll be back” - que Mr Schwarzenegger’s voice.

What We Like

  • The best shitting experience
  • Technological features
  • Sleek compact design
  • Low water consumption - 0.9 GPF and 1.28 GPF

What We Don't Like

  • Pricey - but worth the money
  • Falling in love
  • Hard to install - get a plumber

3. TOTO Supreme

Say hello to Mr. TOTO Supreme. One of the great features is its handsome look.

It comes in a modern clean look with an elegant low profile design, but not ‘handicap” height. It’s seat height is lower than your conventional ADA height toilets, only 15.5’’.

Perfect for anyone that’s looking to have their water closet sitting under a window and don’t want the tank too high. Another benefit of it’s look is its one-piece design as it allows for easy cleaning.

Even with a low water usage of 1.6 GPF, performance and efficiency is not sacrificed. It produces a powerful flush that is fast and clean with no need for a second flush even for the most challenging debris. This is due to the wide 3-Inch flush valve that is 125 percent larger than conventional 2-Inch flush valves

Installation is fairly easy as even first timers will have no problem. However, if you are doubting your ability as a man, you can always get your local plumber to install it.

Also, don’t worry about going out of your way to purchase a toilet seat as it comes with one. What’s even better, it’s not your typical flimsy plastic seat. It comes with a softClose seat, the latest in innovative smart seat technology - eliminates seat slam by lowering the seat slowly.

However, the most important part is that it is… um… comfortable.

What We Like

  • Soft close Seat included - it’s comfortable
  • Powerful flush that is fast and quiet
  • Siphon jet flushing action (1.6 GPF)
  • 5 year warranty

What We Don't Like

  • Not ADA certified
  • Not waterSense Certified - cannot be used in some US localities due to the water consumption

4. TOTO Ultramax II Het Double Cyclone

The next amazing TOTO toilet is the TOTO Ultramax II Het Double Cyclone.

The main advantage of possessing the TOTO Ultramax II is its level of sound muffling technology that has been assimilated. Above the inhibition of the seat bang, this model also decreases the noise of the flush and the equivalent fill.

The height and shape offers immense comfort from sitting to standing and visa-versa, perfectly designed for users of all ages and condition as it

The Double Cyclone flushing systems allows for impressive flushing power as the system creates a powerful centrifugal action that cleans the bowl and rim thoroughly with every flush. You just push the lever and the powerful flushing power will ensure stained bowls, returns or any sort of usual unpleasantness are no more.

This model is very easy to install due to it being a one-piece design, you will get an assurance of easy installation while ensuring not to occupy too much space in the comfort room.

It is easy to clean due to the one-piece design, Double Cyclone flushing system and SanaGloss glazing. The SanaGloss allows for ion barrier glazing cleans your bowl with every flush. This coupled with the double Cyclone technology that cleans your rim and bowl thoroughly with every flush allows for stress free cleaning.

What We Like

  • Low water consumption (1.28 GPF) - WaterSense Certified
  • Powerful, quiet flush every time
  • Easy to clean due to one piece design, SanaGloss and Double Cyclone flushing system
  • SoftClose seat included

What We Don't Like

  • Pricey - but worth the money

5. TOTO Aquia Dual Flush Toilet CST412MF

What I love about the TOTO CST412MF Aquia toilet, is its sleek modern design. The cotton white color is my favorite and it feels like a white angel gracing my butt with its presence.

With a universal height of 16’’ bowl height, taller than your standard water closet, it will give you a more comfortable, natural feeling when sitting.

It has low water consumption due to the dual-max flushing system, making it environmentally friendly. The soft flush (for liquid waste) consumes 0.9 gallons of water, while the heavy flush (for solid waste) consumes 1.6 GPF. With more bang for your buck, you save at least 25% off your water bill compared to your conventional toilet.

Besides the great water saving costs, it refills very quickly after you flush since it uses very little water; it’s usually done by the time I start to wash my hands.

This TOTO model is fairly easy to install, even a first-timer can do it!

The only negative would be that it does not fully meet ADA specifications and cannot, therefore, be installed in restrooms that are used by the general public or employees.

What We Like

  • Low water consumption - WaterSense certified
  • Dual-max flushing system (0.9 and 1.6 GPF)
  • Easy to install

What We Don't Like

  • Not ADA certified
  • Seat not included

History

Best-toto-toilet-history

Who makes TOTO toilets?

TOTO is Japan’s number one manufacturer of sanitary ware and is a brand name known for the improvement of the bathroom culture since its conception in 1917. Its high-tech inventions and superior quality have made it a household name in Japan.

The Water Closet of The Future

The WASHLET is TOTO’s signature product, first launched in 1980. Since then, TOTO has sold 30 million Washlets and virtually become a staple appliance in Japanese homes. Its technological features are outstanding: a sensor-activated lid lifts automatically (and can be heated); a cleansing system using warm-water serves as a bidet with changeable settings, then a dryer; a deodorizer eradicates odours.

Comparison to Other Brands

TOTO is one of the major producers of toilet fixtures worldwide today. One of their main attributes the company has over others is their pride and determination in providing high-quality products and services through ongoing research and development. This is seen with the advancement of technology implemented in their products, especially with their signature Washlet toilet.

Other key significant differences include:

  • Sophisticated designs and colors that will improve the appearance of the bathroom
  • Efficiency, meaning they consume very minimal water with every flush - typically around 1.28 GPF
  • Powerful flushing power that rarely clog, unlike other brands
  • Majority of their products are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. - they help making sitting and standing easier for seniors and disabled people
  • TOTO toilets use common replacement parts, while fixtures from other manufacturers like Kohler and American Standard use parts that are unique to each model

Final Thoughts - The Best Model?

Even though these 5 toilets are the best TOTO toilet that I recommend, I often get asked, “but Tim, what is the best of the best?” Although it’s hard to say as everyone is different, if I had to give an answer, I would say the best TOTO model is:
